Dog and Cat Diagnostics In Austin, TX
Our diagnostic equipment makes it possible for us to understand your pet’s health on a deeper level. Since pets can’t speak for themselves, we have in-house tools that can help us do the talking for them. At Animal Medical Center of Austin, we employ ultrasound, an in-house and out-house laboratory, and digital X-ray in order to give our patients the best care possible.

Why We Recommend Annual Lab Work
Seemingly healthy pets can have more happening below the surface than we realize. Blood, urine, and fecal testing help us see essential information about your pet's health that is otherwise undetectable.
As part of our commitment to preventive care, we recommend yearly blood and fecal screens to check for parasites and diseases (and the potential for disease). Early detection is vital for maintaining your pet’s health and helping them sidestep future issues.

Diagnostic Lab
Our in-house and out-house laboratory options allows our veterinary team to test and receive accurate and comprehensive results on your pet's necessary blood work, fecal analysis, cytologies, and more.
We can find problems earlier and start your pet on their treatments, medications, or therapies faster, helping your pet on the road to recovery and long-term wellness.
Digital x-rays
Digital X-rays allow our team to quickly and safely evaluate your pet’s internal health. This non-invasive imaging tool helps us diagnose a wide range of conditions, including:
- Broken bones
- Foreign objects
- Issues affecting the heart, lungs, and abdomen
With fast results and minimal stress for your pet, X-rays play an important role in timely, accurate care.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a painless and non-invasive way for us to see your pet's internal organs and other structures. Ultrasound can be used to diagnose:
- Foreign bodies
- Cysts
- Cancerous tumors
- GI tract obstructions
- Heart conditions
- Pregnancies
- Fluid in the abdomen or around the heart
Ultrasound can be used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools, and most pets tolerate it well.
Echocardiogram referrals
If your pet shows signs of a heart condition, our team can perform a thorough exam and initial diagnostics to help determine next steps. When advanced imaging like an echocardiogram is recommended, we coordinate referrals with trusted specialists to ensure your pet receives timely, appropriate care.
We also welcome clients with prior diagnostics for consultation and next-step planning. An echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) may be recommended to evaluate:
- Heart murmurs or abnormal heart sounds
- Enlargement of the heart or structural abnormalities
- Valve diseases (such as degenerative valve disease)
- Cardiomyopathy (diseases of the heart muscle)
- Fluid buildup around the heart (pericardial effusion)
- Congenital heart defects
- Changes in heart function or pumping ability
